PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.- While playing in front of a great crowd and even better atmosphere, the Palm Beach Atlantic University softball team was unable to earn a split with Rollins College on Wednesday evening as the Tars earned a 5-0 victory in game two of their double-header with the Fish after winning 1-0 in game one.
Settled in a severe offensive drought which has witnessed the Fish be shutout in each of their last three games, the offensive woes up and down the lineup continued for PBA on this night.
Senior Andrea Fugate went to the circle for head coach Kimmy Bloemers in the nightcap as the right-hander from Lake Wales, Florida allowed five earned runs in five innings of work while also registering a pair of strikeouts in the loss. Sophomore Heather Laird finished out the contest for the Fish with two solid innings of scoreless relief.
Casey Gibson, one of six seniors honored during a ceremony between games, moved into the leadoff spot for game two and connected for one of two PBA hits. Senior Melissa Wallach added in the other hit.
Rachael Foster earned the second shutout of the day for Rollins, following up teammate Nicole Anderson’s solid first game performance with perhaps an even more dominating performance. Foster collected 12 strikeouts and allowed just two Sailfish hits.
PBA will now take the next few weeks off as they will begin their preperations for the upcoming National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Tournament that will be hosted by Palm Beach Atlantic University at the Lake Catherine Sportsplex from April 24th-26th.
