WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic Women’s Soccer team won a thrilling game on Wednesday night, beating Lynn University by a score of 3-2. The win is the first by a Sailfish team over Lynn in the Palm Beach Atlantic University NCAA Division II era.
Palm Beach Atlantic (3-2-0) struck first in the contest, as senior Kasey Wyer scored her third goal of the season in the 9th minute, as she beat the Lynn keeper after a nice pass from sophomore Monica Rojas.
The next 30 minutes of the match would be dominated by Lynn University (0-4-1), as the Fighting Knights would net a goal in the 23rd and 32nd minutes to take a 2-1 lead.
Wyer would be back at it again late in the first half, as the Greer, South Carolina native blasted a shot past the Lynn keeper to tie the score at 2-2. The goal was Wyer’s 4th of the season to take the team lead.
The scoring would stall at 2-2 until well into the second half, as neither team were able to get many shots on goal. The Sailfish would get the game winning goal in the 69th minute off the foot of Jaime Montgomery, who would tie Wyer in season goals with her fourth of the season as her long shot tipped off the Lynn goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
Palm Beach Atlantic will be back in action on Saturday, September 19th, as they play host to Florida Southern College. Kickoff is set for 7 pm from the Rinker Athletic Campus.
