'Fish Remain Hot, Defeat Delta State 6-1

BOCA RATON, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic men’s soccer team continued their winning ways Saturday afternoon, as they defeated the Delta State Statesmen 6-1 at Bobby Campbell Stadium in the final day of the Wyndham Deerfield Beach Men's Soccer Classic. The Sailfish are now 5-0-0 to start off the season.



The opening minute saw the ‘Fish jump out to a 1-0 lead off a goal from Cleef Desir, only 39 seconds into the game. In the 18th minute, Oscar Farias picked up right where he left off in the first game of the Wyndham Classic, scoring his first goal of the game off an assist from Tom Gavin.

In the 20th minute, Lucas Coutinho sent in a beautiful pass through the defense allowing Cameron Roberts to finish the goal, giving PBA a 3-0 lead. Coutinho picked up his second assist of the game just four minutes later as he sent another gorgeous pass through the Statesmen defense. This time, Farias was on the other end scoring his second goal of the game. 



The 61st minute saw the Sailfish extend their lead to 5-0 when a Statesmen defender accidentally deflected a PBA shot into his own goal. The lone goal for the Statesmen that saw the Sailfish net came in the 64th minute when Brock Hollier scored for Delta State. The lone goal the Sailfish let up, was the first goal conceded by the ‘Fish in 355 minutes. (Thats almost six hours of play).



Lucas DaSilva added the final goal of the afternoon for the ‘Fish, scoring in the 83rd minute from an assist by Chris Sandys-Thomas. 



The Sailfish defense held Delta State to four shots in the game, with only one of them being on target. 



The Sailfish are back in action Wednesday Sept. 16, as they travel back to Bobby Campbell Stadium at Lynn University for the third consecutive time, this time playing the top ranked Fighting Knights of Lynn University. The game is set for a 7 pm start time. The ‘Fish will be back at the Rinker Athletic Campus Saturday Sept. 26, as they host the University of Tampa at 7 pm.
