PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla.- The Rollins College softball team scored an unearned run in the first inning against Palm Beach Atlantic University ace right-hander Ashley Jones and that would be all it would take as the Tars shut out the Sailfish 1-0 in the opener of the double-header on Wednesday evening at the Lake Catherine Sportsplex.
In what was the final home double-header of the season for Palm Beach Atlantic, the Sailfish once again struggled to swing the bats and get the timely hits they needed to win the ball-game.
Rollins starter Nicole Anderson limited the Sailfish to three hits in earning the complete game shutout while Missy Thogmartin came around to score the game’s only run on a defensive miscue by the Sailfish in the first inning. Anderson finished with 11 strikeouts while not walking a batter as she improved to 16-3 on the season.
Jones was just as impressive in the circle for PBA as she tallied 10 strikeouts while allowing just three hits in a game that took just over an hour to complete due to the dominating fashion of both team’s hurlers.
Shortstop Caitlin Bouschet, second-baseman Holly Elliott, and third-baseman Danielle Perrotti each collected a hit for the Fish in the loss that drops PBA to 29-22 on the season.
