MIAMI SHORES, Fla.- The Sailfish men’s soccer team has advanced to 2-0-0 on the year with a 6-0 win Saturday evening against the University of North Georgia in Miami Shores in the final day of the Barry University Showcase.
The game was scoreless until senior Jermaine Metz scored in the 31st minute off an assist from Phill Cardoso. Less than two minutes later, Metz was on the other side of a goal, assisting Lucas Kuscevic, which would be the only two goals of the first half.
Sophomore Lucas DaSilva kept his hot streak going by adding another two goals; his first came in the 56th minute off an assist from Cleef Desir, and three minutes later Oscar Farias assisted DaSilva to extend the Sailfish lead to 4-0 over the Nighthawks.
Sophomore Jerry Saint-Vil tallied his first goal of the year when scoring in the 69th minute off of the pass from Lucas Coutinho, and Phill Cardoso added an unassisted goal of his own in the 80th minute to give the Sailfish a 6-0 lead which would be the final score of the game.
All the goals scored aside, the highlight of the night for the ‘Fish was their defense, as the Nighthawks only got two shots on goal in the duration of the game, versus the 25 shots the ‘Fish were able to get on net.
Senior goalkeeper Steeven Raymont picked up his first clean sheet of the year, and is now 2-0-0 on the season.
The Sailfish are back in action Monday night as they take on Colorado Christian University in their home opener at 7 pm. Students are encouraged to be at the RAC before the game, as there will be a tailgate starting at 5 pm as a part of “Dive-In Weekend” hosted by the Steering Committee.
