WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s soccer team kicked off the 2015 season on Friday night at home in front of a big crowd, and the ‘Fish didn’t disappoint as they struck early and often en route to a 5-0 victory over Chestnut Hill College in the 2015 PBA Kickoff Classic.
It would be freshman forward Jaime Montgomery that would give the Sailfish the lead with two early goals. The Gaithersburg, Maryland native scored in the 15th minute and then again in the 22nd minute, beating the keeper on both after nice passes from Bridget Wollrabe, and Nicole Shaffer respectively.
Senior Kasey Wyer would put the game out of reach in the second half, scoring two impressive unassisted goals. In the 48th minute, Wyer dribbled past defenders and blasted a shot high into the net. 14 minutes later,Wyer scored on a free kick from 45 yards out, placing the shot perfectly over the Chestnut Hill goaltender.
To round out the scoring for the night, freshman Shannon Berg netted her first goal as a member of the Sailfish, scoring on a nice shot from inside the box after a long pass from Carson Mitchell.
The Sailfish defense was strong all night, stopping any scoring chances that came from the Griffins and only allowing one shot on goal. The defense was led by Karina White, Valerie Larson, and Savanna Soares, with all three playing the entire 90 minutes.
The ‘Fish will be back in action on Sunday, September 6th as they face Maryville University at the Rinker Athletic Campus at 1 pm in the final game of the PBA Kickoff Classic.
