GREENVILLE, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s tennis had three players named to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) All-American teams, with Veena Vasquez and Valerie Nagovitcina earning first-team honors and Leyla Taracena being named to the second-team.
Vasquez, a Boynton Beach native, wraps up her PBA tennis career with a fourth straight nod to the NCCAA All-American team. She finished the season 12-6 as the Sailfish No.-1 singles player, while also winning 12 matches in doubles.
Nagovitcina, who is in her first year at Palm Beach Atlantic, also received a nod to the NCCAA All-American first-team. The Togliatty, Russia native finished the season with a record of 13-9 as No. 2 singles and also turning in 13 wins in doubles.
Taracena, who joined Vasquez as the two seniors for the Sailfish this spring, was honored to the NCCAA All-American second-team. The San Pedro Sula, Honduras native finished her final singles season with ten wins while contributing to 15 victories on the doubles side.
In addition to the team’s on-court accomplishments was the good work of a select few off the court as Vasquez and men’s player Mark Heimberger were also named NCCAA Scholar-Athletes. To be named a Scholar-Athlete a student-athlete must be a junior or senior and have maintained at least a 3.4 cumulative grade-point average.
