MASON, Ohio – Palm Beach Atlantic wrapped up a terrific season on Friday evening, falling to No. 2 seed Lee University 6-1 in the national semi-finals of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) World Series at Prasco Park.
Lee kicked off the game with a two-run first against Sailfish starter Josh Turner (Loss, 5-7), who was coming back on short rest having thrown the tournament’s opener, and added another tally in the third to take a 3-0 lead.
PBA threatened in nearly every inning on the night, working six walks while also collecting five hits along the way, but couldn’t string enough together to get any runs until the game was out of reach.
After the Flames tacked on three more runs over the course of the game, the Sailfish scored their lone run of the game when Jason Webb came in to score on an overthrow with Kevin Fry stealing second in the bottom of the ninth.
Senior Andres Vazquez finished his career with a 2-for-3 performance that included a double, while junior Eric Russell worked three and two-thirds innings in relief and struck out a career-high eight batters.
Palm Beach Atlantic finishes the season with a record of 28-27-1, matching their program-best since joining NCAA Division II.
