MASON, Ohio – In a rematch of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) South Regional championship, Palm Beach Atlantic bust out the big sticks and routed Toccoa Falls College 14-3 at Prasco Park to advance to the national semi-final.
PBA used a combination of five doubles, a triple and two home runs to go along with 13 singles for their 21 hits, with seven players turning in multi-hit efforts.
After scoring single runs in both the first and fourth innings, the Sailfish exploded for five runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth. Sean Visconti got the fifth started with a double to right-center field and after a sacrifice bunt and fielder’s choice, the ‘Fish had two on and two away. Sophomore Peter Rivera came through with a majestic home run to left-center to plate three and make it a 5-0 game, but PBA wasn’t through yet.
Jason Webb followed with a triple down the right field line and Ryan Johnson came through with a double to score Webb and put himself in scoring position as well. Pat Kane then reached on an error and brought home the fifth run of the inning and made it 7-0.
Not wanting to take the pressure off after Toccoa Falls scored their first run, Palm Beach Atlantic put together a four run inning thanks to an Andres Vazquez RBI double, a Brian Walker run-scoring single, and a Webb two-run blast to right field.
The Eagles were able to push across two runs in the bottom of the sixth against starter Kennie Silvestri (Win, 3-3), but would get no more, as the senior righty baffled the TFC hitters for the second time in two weeks.
Palm Beach Atlantic put the final exclamation point on the game with a three-run eighth inning, getting an RBI groundout from Johnson and a two-run single from Pat Kane. With the score at 14-3, Silvestri worked around a one-out single in the bottom of the eighth to finish out the run-rule victory.
Silvestri finished the game with eight strikeouts and only one walk while scattering six hits in his second complete game of the season, both against Toccoa Falls.
PBA’s offense had no shortage of heroes in the game, with Jason Webb leading the way with his 4-for-4 performance that included a home run, triple and two singles. Peter Rivera and Pat Kane each went 3-for-5 with three runs batted in, while Sean Visconti and Andres Vazquez also added three hit apiece. Not to be left out, Brian Walker and Ryan Johnson also tacked on two hits apiece.
With the victory, PBA advances to take on No. 2 seeded Lee University at 8:00 pm in the NCCAA semi-final game on Friday night.
