LAKE WORTH, Fla. – In the midst of the Palm Beach Atlantic softball season, the team found time to join together and volunteer at the Area 10 Summer Games and Healthy Athletes, an event held at John I Leonard High School by the West Palm Beach chapter of the Special Olympics.

The group spent time with a handful of athletes ranging from middle school age to senior citizens and worked on hitting and throwing. The main event for the athletes was the throwing competition in which each athlete had three throws to see who could record the farthest distance. PBA’s softball squad assisted in the competition, measuring the distances and escorting the athletes to receive their ribbons afterward.

A good time was had by all of the athletes involved, but the experience made a lasting impact on Palm Beach Atlantic’s players. Junior Karina Langer observed, “It was so fun to experience the happiness that was brought to each athlete through participating in these games,” and added, “Their excitement was contagious and a true joy to be around.”

Fellow junior Theresa Butler also remarked, “We had so much fun spending time with such amazing athletes. It was a great blessing seeing the smiles on their faces and the joy they all have is truly inspiring.”

Palm Beach Atlantic wraps up their season on Friday evening when they head to Nova Southeastern for the 2015 season finale against the Sharks, starting at 5:00 pm.
