Seniors Lead Way, Sailfish Win 5-1

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla- The Palm Beach Atlantic men’s tennis team won their final home match of the season Saturday afternoon, beating Flagler College 5-1 on Senior Day.

The men’s team saw three seniors play their final regular season match at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center Saturday afternoon, and with the victory, give the Sailfish their 15th consecutive win. The Sailfish, who love playing at home, finished the year 5-1 at home.

The day got started with the tandem of Nicolas Uryson and Romain Nowaczyk who picked up an 8-2 victory in doubles. The duo of Mark Heimberger and Matt Leeds followed suite, posted an 8-5 win. Rounding out the competition on the doubles side, Nicholas Battistini and Fernando Arroyo picked up a victory as well, winning 8-3.

Up 3-0 heading into singles play, the ‘Fish wasted no time, as 28th ranked Uryson picked up a 6-3,6-4 victory. The Saints picked up their only victory of the day in the second set, where Nowaczyk saw defeat for only the 3rd time this year in singles competition. In the six spot, Heimberger decided the Sailfish weren't going to need anyone else to win, as he picked up the victory, 6-3, 2-6, 6-0, giving the ‘Fish the fifth and deciding victory.

The Sailfish now post a record of 16-2 on the year, and have two matches left in the regular season. The Sailfish head to St. Petersburg, Fla. tomorrow to take on the Eckerd College Tritons starting at 2:00pm. After Eckerd, the Sailfish head to Miami Shores to take on one of the nations top tennis programs Barry University at 3:00pm on April 17th
