MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Senior Jason Webb launched two home runs for Palm Beach Atlantic on the Friday night but the pitching struggled against St. Thomas, falling 14-5 before rain washed away the night in the bottom of the sixth inning at Paul Mainieri Field.
St. Thomas tagged PBA starter Josh Turner (Loss, 3-4) for five runs in the bottom of the first inning, and would build up their lead progressively as the night went on. They added a run in the second, and then exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Palm Beach Atlantic’s bright spot came from the left-handed bat of Webb, who launched his first homer of the night, a two-run shot, in the fourth inning. The Holmstead, Fla. native came through in his next at-bat as well, hammering a majestic three-run shot to right, but the Sailfish wouldn’t get the chance to get any closer.
Just as Robbie Pettet took the mound in the bottom of the sixth inning, the weather horn sounded to send everyone to shelter, and the game would never begin again.
Webb finished the game 3-for-3 with a single to go along with his two homers and five RBI, while fellow senior Chris Farrell went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
PBA returns to action Saturday when they travel back to St. Thomas to take on the Bobcats in a traditional double-header beginning at noon.
