WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic men’s tennis faced a formidable Bluefield State squad on Thursday night and narrowly defeated the Blues 5-4 at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center.

BSC is ranked No. 1 in the Atlantic region and has three singles players and all three doubles pairings ranked in the latest ITA regional polls.

PBA, however, would not be intimidated and won two out of the three doubles competitions. Romain Nowaczyk and Nicholas Uryson combined to take down the Blues’ top pairing 9-8, while Asti Adams and Nicholas Battistini made easy work of the number three combination by an 8-1 final.

Palm Beach Atlantic got masterful performances from Nowaczyk and Uryson on the singles side as well, with Romain winning 6-2, 6-1 and Nicholas sweeping away his opponent 6-0, 6-0.

After Bluefield State came roaring back, winning numbers three, four and six singles, it came down to Battistini in the fifth spot for the match. The junior fell behind early, dropping the first set 4-6, but rebounded to take the second set 6-4. In the match-deciding set, Battistini came out on top 6-3 to give PBA their ninth win on the season.

Palm Beach Atlantic returns to action on Friday afternoon when they travel to Florida Southern College to take on the Moccasins at 4:00 pm.
