Sailfish Sweep Blues in Return to West Palm Beach

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s tennis was back in action on their home court on Thursday night after a week away for spring break, and promptly swept away Bluefield State College 9-0 from the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center.

PBA, who went with a slightly different combination of doubles pairings for the match, got 8-0 sweeps from the number one doubles of Veena Vasquez and Maja Jovic as well as from number three duo of Valerie Nagovitcina and Michaela Mignemi. Yoanna Peshev and Leyla Taracena came out on top of their match by a 9-8 score.

The singles offered the Sailfish another chance to flex their muscles, getting wins from every spot in the lineup. Vasquez defeated the Blues’ number one 8-4, while Nagovitcina won 6-4, 6-2 at the two spot.

Peshev rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory as the number three, and Taracena swept away her opponent 8-0. Newcomers Ana  Reich and Dezi Bowman were also victorious, winning 6-0, 6-4 and 8-5 respectively.

Palm Beach Atlantic improves to 11-5 on the season and will hit the road to take on Warner University on Saturday for the next competition.
