PBA Takes Down Edinboro and IUP in Hilton Head

Hilton Head S.C.- In their first day of action in the Hilton Head Spring Break Challenge, the Sailfish women’s tennis team were victorious over the Edinburo Fighting Scots 8-1 Tuesday morning, and defeating the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Crimson Hawks 5-4 Tuesday afternoon.
In the first match of the day for the women, the Sailfish defeated the Fighting Scots in two of the three doubles contests. The opening duo for the ‘Fish, Vasquez/ Nagovitcina picked up an 8-1 win. They were followed by Taracena/ Mignemi who dominated their way to an 8-0 victory. The only blemish for the Sailfish Tuesday morning occurred as Reich/ Bowman dropped their set 8-4.
On the singles side, Edinboro was no match for the Sailfish, who won all six sets. Vasquez started the morning off with a 6-1, 6-1 victory, followed by Nagoviticina’s 6-1, 6-1 win. Peshev was victorious in the third set, 6-0, 6-1, and Jovic posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
Rounding out the morning match, Taracena was victorious in the fifth set, winning 6-0, 6-2, and Reich completed the singles sweep, with a score of 6-0, 6-1.

The second match of the day for the Sailfish also saw a victorious outcome. The Sailfish dropped the first doubles competition with even Vasquez and Valerie Nagovitcina dropping the contest 8-6. Yoanna Peshev and Maja Jovic were the only Sailfish duo to come out on top on the doubles side vs IUP, boasting am 8-5 win. The final doubles set saw Leyla Taracena and Michaela Mignemi unfortunately defeated 8-6.
Heading into singles competition down two sets to one, the ladies knew they had to fight hard to regain the advantage, and eventually win the match. Even Vasquez started things off for the Sailfish winning 6-2, 7-6, and was followed by Valerie Nagovitcina who won 6-2, 7-7. Yoanna Peshev dropped her set 6-4, 6-2 to even things out against the Crimson Hawks.
With three sets to go, Maja Jovic stepped up in the fourth set, winning 7-6, 6-2. Leyla Taracena dropped the 5th set 6-4, 6-2; which tied things up at four sets a piece. Ana Reich came up big in the ninth and final set, winning 6-1, 6-3 closing the door on a five sets to four victory for the Sailfish in their second match of the day.
