GREENVILLE, S.C.- For the first time this season, the Palm Beach Atlantic University baseball program has had one of its members named as the National Chrisitian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) national player of the week for March 24th-March 30th.
A senior from Kalamazoo, Michigan and a second-year player in a Sailfish uniform after a two-year stint at Kellogg Community College, Grau is a unique player for the Fish as he contributes not only with his bat and glove but also from the pitcher’s mound as a member of the Sailfish starting rotation.
Grau helped lead the Sailfish to a 3-1 week including a midweek victory over Palm Beach County rival Lynn University while also taking two of three games over the weekend on the road at Eckerd College.
With the ability to play all three outfield positions as well as first-base with a solid 6’2” frame, Grau put together a great week at the plate including at least two hits in three of four games during the week.
In total, Grau posted a week of .615 (8-13) batting average while driving in seven runs, scoring three times, drawing three walks, and stealing two bases. Grau’s biggest day came on Saturday in the first game of a double-header sweep against Eckerd College as Grau blasted a pair of homeruns while finishing the game 3-for-4 with three runs batted in and a walk.
The only left-hander in the Sailfish starting rotation, Grau followed up his big performance at the plate with a solid showing on the mound in game two as he went the distance for the Fish in a 9-4 game two win. Grau went all seven innings while collecting three strikeouts.
