Sailfish Squeak Past Dukes, 5-4

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s tennis got back on the winning track on Sunday with a victory over NCAA Division I Duquesne University, 5-4, at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Complex.
PBA came away with two wins in the top two doubles, with Veena Vasquez and Valerie Nagovitcina winning 9-7 and Yoanna Peshev and Maja Jovic coming out on top 8-6. Duquesne did manage a win in the number three pairing, which set the stage for an epic singles showdown.
After being down 2-1, the Dukes came back and took a 4-3 lead thanks to wins at one, three and five singles. Nagovitcina pulled out a 6-2, 6-3 win, but the match came down to the number four and six matchups.
Jovic had taken the first set 7-6, but then fell 3-6 in the second set. The third and final set finished with a comfortable 6-2 victory. Ana Reich came through with the decisive victory for the Sailfish, winning the number six singles 6-1, 5-6, and 7-6.
Palm Beach Atlantic returns to action on Wednesday, March 4th when they play host to the Lewis University Flyers at 5:00 pm at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Complex.
