LAKELAND, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic mounted an epic comeback on Friday night against Florida Southern College, coming from down a run in the eighth inning to getting a game-winning RBI from Jorge Bravo in the ninth to take down the Mocs 7-6 from Henley Field.
The comeback started in the eighth inning when Chris Farrell singled with one out in the inning. After a wild pitch advanced Farrell to second and the Mocs got the second out of the inning, Brian Walker laid down a perfect bunt to put runners on the corners. Freshman Kyle Simon came through with a clutch base hit to center that tied the game.
Senior Jason Webb doubled to lead off the ninth inning in his first at-bat of the game and Bravo followed with a seeing-eyed single up the middle that put the ‘Fish ahead for the win.
Overshadowed by the late-inning heroics was the starting pitching performance by junior Josh Turner. The Ogden, Iowa native pitched into the sixth inning, striking out eight and allowing just three runs. Eric Russell (Win, 1-0) went the final two innings and allowed just one hit to pick up the win.
Three hitters had two-hit nights for the Sailfish, with Bravo turning in a triple to go along with the game-winning single, Farrell knocking a single and his second homer of the season, and Walker finishing with two singles.
Palm Beach Atlantic has now won five straight games and looks to continue the streak tomorrow in a double header against Florida Southern beginning at 1:00 pm.
