WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University had a good old-fashion slugfest at Rubin Park on Tuesday night, combining for 23 hits en route to a Eagles’ 11-9 victory over the Sailfish.

It was a back-and-forth battle throughout the game’s entirety, with ERAU grabbing the lead for good in the sixth inning.

Embry-Riddle jumped out to a 4-1 lead with three runs in the third, but Palm Beach Atlantic came storming back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth. Just when PBA closed the gap, ERAU jumped ahead with a three-run fifth. The Sailfish were ready to pounce right back.

In the bottom fourth inning, the top of the order got the fire started for the Sailfish. Pat Kane led off with a leadoff single, followed by back-to-back walks to Sean Visconti and Chris Farrell. Senior left fielder Andres Vazquez came through with a two-run single, cutting the lead to just one run. After a Brian Walker single, freshman Kevin Fry lofted a two-RBI single over the second baseman to give PBA the lead.

Unfortunately for the Sailfish, Embry-Riddle would answer with a three-run sixth inning that was ultimately the difference in the game.  The Eagles would tack an insurance run on in the seventh inning, and PBA would try to claw their way back on multiple occasions, but could not get the clutch hit in the end.

Vazquez finished the night with a 3-for-4 performance in which he scored three runs and also drove in two. Fry went 2-for-3 with three runs driven in and a run scored, while Walker added a two-hit performance, scoring one and driving in one.

Palm Beach Atlantic returns to action on Friday, February 20th when they travel to Miami Shores to take on Barry University at 6 pm in the first of a three-game series.
