WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men’s basketball team looked to be in a prime position to upset No. 3 ranked Barry University on Saturday evening when the two teams went into the half tied up, but the Buccaneers came out on fire and buried the Sailfish, 99-75 from the Rubin Arena.
After containing BU for the much of the first half, going into halftime at 39-39, couldn’t keep their defensive pressure up in the second stanza, allowing 60 points on 66% (21-for-32) shooting. The Buccaneers didn’t miss their first shot until the 11:27 mark, putting 16 points between themselves and the Sailfish.
Barry used their unique combination of size, strength, speed and shooting prowess to put on a show for those in the stands of the Rubin Arena, outrebounding PBA 35-25, forcing 18 turnovers, and shooting 55% (36-for-65) for the game.
Unfortunately lost in all of this is the offensive effort put together by Palm Beach Atlantic. The hosts shot 46% (27-for-59) from the floor for the game and went 42% (13-for-31) from behind the three-point line as well.
Leading the way for PBA was Clayton Williams who had 16 points thanks to five triples on the night. Michael Simpson continued his hot shooting from downtown with four three-pointers on his way to 14 points, while Evin Graham added 12 points, Garet Tucker finished with 11, and Nigel Sydnor had 10.
The Sailfish return to action on Tuesday night when they welcome Florida Tech to the Rubin Arena at 7:00 pm.
