WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic men’s basketball struggled to keep up with the pace set by No. 3 ranked Florida Southern College on Saturday afternoon, falling 93-67 at the hands of the Moccasins from the Rubin Arena.
With a pair of quick three’s from Clayton Williams to give PBA an early lead, but FSC slowly built out their advantage during the opening stanza. With under four minutes to go in the first half, the visitors held a 15-point lead, but the Sailfish wouldn’t go away quietly.
Over the final three minutes of the half, Palm Beach Atlantic went on a 10-2 run to close the gap down to seven. Unfortunately, that was as close as the Sailfish would get as the Mocs sprinted out to an 11-4 start to the second half. FSC would then use a barrage of three-pointers to put the game out of reach for good.
Florida Southern shot 53% (9-of-17) from behind the three-point in the second half alone and 41% (14-for-34) for the game. Their overall shooting percentage was 45% (32-for-71), while they held PBA to 37% (26-for-71). The Sailfish won the rebounding battle 46-45, but FSC forced PBA into 15 turnovers in the contest
Palm Beach Atlantic had three players in double-figures, led by Clayton Williams who had 14 for the night. Fellow senior Evin Graham had a double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds while Garet Tucker added 10 points and eight boards.
The Sailfish return to action on Wednesday night when they look to avenge an early-season loss at the hands of Rollins College at 7:00 pm in the Rubin Arena.
