Tritons Sharpshooting Snares Sailfish, 70-59

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s basketball team’s struggled through the second half and saw their modest two-game winning streak snapped by Eckerd College, 70-59, on Wednesday night from the Rubin Arena.
After trailing by five at half, the visiting Tritons inched their lead out to seven to start the second stanza. With exactly 12 minutes to go in the game the Sailfish cut the lead down to three, but that was as close as they would get the rest of the way. In just four minutes EC busted out an 8-0 run, and PBA was never able to close the gap again.
Neither squad boasted numbers to write home about for the night, with Eckerd shooting 39% (24-for-62) and Palm Beach Atlantic just 34% (22-for-64). PBA particularly struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 21% (4-for-19) while EC thrived, finishing at 39% (7-for-18). The Tritons also owned the rebounding advantage, 43-34, and shot 83% (15-for-18) from the charity stripe compared to the Sailfish 79% (11-for-14).
Palm Beach Atlantic had three players in double-figures for the game, led by Janelle Cannon. The junior scored a game-high 20 points and also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds, giving her her second double-double of the season. Nkiru Anyagaligbo and Denisa Domiterova each added 12 points, while Kimmi McIntosh dished out seven assists.
The Sailfish return to action in the Rubin Arena on Saturday afternoon when they play host to Florida Southern College at 2 pm.
