WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic men’s basketball came out on top in another nail-biter in the Rubin Arena, sneaking past Nova Southeastern on Wednesday night, 62-60.
After a first half that saw both teams trading blows the entire way, the Sailfish controlled most of the second stanza. Leading by as many as 12 with just under 11 minutes to go, the Sharks started to slowly chip away at the PBA lead.
PBA led by six with just 25 seconds left, but NSU continued to launch their successful three-point barrage, keeping the game close to the very end. Senior Ronnell Ross stepped to the free-throw line with under ten seconds to go and sank both chances to put the game out of reach of the Sharks for good.
Neither team fared well from the charity stripe, but it ended up being a key difference in the game. Palm Beach Atlantic shot just one better than Nova Southeastern from the line, going 11-for-19 compared to the Sharks’ 10-for-19.
Both teams shot well from behind the arc on the night, with NSU shooting 37% (10-for-27) and PBA 36% (9-for-25). The Sailfish outrebounded the Sharks, 35-29.
Senior Evin Graham had another tremendous performance for PBA, scoring a team-high 21 points while grabbing six rebounds, dishing out four assists, swiping two steals and swatting a shot. He was joined in double-figures by Derick Yepes who had 12, and Ronnell Ross who scored 10 points and brought down six rebounds.
Palm Beach Atlantic returns to action on Saturday, January 24th when they travel to Saint Leo to take on the Lions at 4:00 pm.
