With the Sailfish trailing by five at halftime, PBA rode a 46% (11-for-24) shooting mark and forced 14 turnovers to put the game within reach in the waning moments of regulation. As time trickled off the clock, Janelle Cannon knocked down a floater to tie the score at 65-65.
Unfortunately for PBA, they couldn’t muster much offense in the overtime, shooting just 8% (1-for-12) in the extra session while Lynn shot 60% (3-for-5) from the floor. The key difference in the game came at the free throw line, where the ‘Fish made just 66% (19-for-29) from the stripe and the Knights connected on 72% (18-for-25).
While both teams brought down 42 rebounds, Palm Beach Atlantic dominated the turnover battle by forcing Lynn into 27 turnovers while committing just 15 of their own. Those 15 were the fewest turnovers surrendered by PBA in six games.
For the game, PBA shot 32% (24-for-74) from the floor and 25% (4-for-16) from downtown while Lynn shot 43% (24-for-56) from the floor and 36% (9-for-25) from beyond the arc.
Cannon had an amazing night for the Sailfish, flirting with a triple-double thanks to a game-high 22 points, 14 rebounds and eight steals. She also had six assists in the game. Also notching double-digit scoring efforts were Mallory Motycka, who knocked down three big triples and finished with 13, and Taylor Buchanan, who tallied 10 points on the night.
Palm Beach Atlantic hits the road again Saturday when they travel north to the University of Tampa to take on the Spartans at 2 pm from the Bob Martinez Center.
