Long Match Eventually Goes Sailfish Way in Men's Tennis on Senior Day

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University men’s and women’s tennis teams hosted a dual-match with West Alabama University on Thursday afternoon and evening as the men’s Sailfish squad, who celebrated the culminating careers of seniors Brock Newton and Paul Segodo before the match, came away with a 5-4 win.

Newton teamed up with doubles partner John Tilton for the match’s opening set and delivered an 8-2 victory. A long number two doubles matchup finally went the way of WAU as Segodo and sophomore Frankie Moulton were narrowly defeated 9-8 (7).

James Buerkle and Lukas Colombo teamed up for the win in doubles number three with another solid 8-2 victory for the Fish.

On the singles side, Newton and Segodo took care of business at number one and two respectively as Newton won 6-3, 6-2 and Segodo delivered with a 6-0, 6-2 win.

Playing in their final home match of their collegiate careers, Newton and Segodo were both honored before the match by head coach Chi Ly and their teammates for their remarkable accomplishments during their time in a Sailfish tennis uniform.

Tilton was the other winner for PBA in singles with a 6-4, 2-6, and 6-4 that clinched the match at number five.

PBA’s overall record improves to  15-5 on the season as they hold their #38 National NCCA team rating.
