Shaw Muscles Past PBA in 2nd Half, Down Sailfish 84-74

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s basketball suffered a tough fate on Friday afternoon, falling in the opening game of the Florida Tech CarMax Holiday Tournament to Shaw University 84-74.
PBA held a 39-34 lead at the halftime break, but were unable to keep the Bears’ offense in check in the second half. Shaw outscored the Sailfish 50-35 in the decisive second stanza, while also dominating on the boards 27-16.
Shaw finished the game shooting 51% (32-for-63) from the floor and 31% (5-for-16) from the three-point line. Palm Beach Atlantic meanwhile shot 39% (28-for-71) from the floor and 38% (8-for-21) from beyond the arc. The final rebounding totals were 43-38 in favor of Shaw, while PBA forced the Bears into 19 turnovers while only committing 17.
Sophomore Ayanna Holmes ignited the Sailfish off the bench, collecting a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds in the game. Nina Krstic also came off the bench to score in double figures, finishing with 15 points and seven boards. Senior Denisa Domiterova chipped in 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting from beyond the three-point line and also dished out a career-high nine assists.
Palm Beach Atlantic has little time to sulk over the loss as day two of the FIT Holiday Tournament will pit the Sailfish against the Dolphins of Le Moyne College at noon Saturday afternoon.
