Dominant First Half Leads To 76-63 PBA Victory Over Saint Leo

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – After a heartbreaking loss on the road last week, Palm Beach Atlantic women’s basketball team came out firing on all cylinders and rode their strong first half to a dominating 76-63 victory over Saint Leo on Saturday evening.
Thanks to an eight minute stretch during the first half in which the Sailfish put together a 22-4 run, PBA built up a 22-point halftime lead over the visiting Lions. During that stretch, the ‘Fish forced five turnovers and were able to score off three of those, while also knocking down a pair of three-pointers. In total, the host shot 57% (17-for-30) from the floor for the half, while the visitors shot 32% (8-for-25) including just 21% (3-for-14) from downtown.
After the halftime break, Palm Beach Atlantic and Saint Leo played more even, with the Sailfish shooting 44% (11-for-25) and the Lions shooting 39% (13-for-33) from the floor. The biggest difference for SLU was their shooting from the three, as they went 8-for-23 from beyond the arc.
In the end, PBA forced SLU into 21 turnovers and had 13 steals for the game. The Sailfish also distributed a season-high 21 assists in the game while shooting 52% (28-for-54) from the floor and 54% (7-for-13) from downtown. The Lions finished the game with a shooting percentage of 36% (21-for-59) and a mark of 30% (11-for-37) from beyond the three-point line.
Palm Beach Atlantic had four players in double-digits for the game, getting big nights from Nkiru Anyagaligbo, Taylor Buchanan, Nina Krstic, and Denisa Domiterova. Anyagaligbo led the Sailfish with 16 points while also bringing down seven rebounds, swiping three steals, and blocking two shots. Buchanan added her 13 points thanks to an impressive 8-for-10 showing from the free-throw line. Krstic tallied 12 points while bringing down a team-high nine rebounds, while Domiterova chipped in 11 points, six assists and three steals.
The Sailfish return to action on Friday, December 19th when they travel to Florida Tech to take part in the Panther Invitational. They’ll open up with Shaw University at 2:30 pm and then finish with a game against LeMoyne College on Saturday at noon.
