PBA Softball Earns NFCA All-Academic Team Honor

LOUISVILLE, Ky.- The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team is accustomed to earning on-field honors for their exceptional play between the white lines. This week the Sailfish program was named one of the top academic teams in the NCAA Division II ranks by being selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Academic teams for 2013-14.
In addition to their team honor the Sailfish also had 13 of their players chosen as NFCA Scholar-Athletes for their good work in the classroom.
The Sailfish boasted a 3.46 team grade-point average for the 2013-14 academic year which placed them in the top-20 of all Division II institutions. They finished second among NCAA South Region institutions narrowly trailing the University of West Alabama who finished with a 3.47 GPA. The Sunshine State Conference had four of its members earn the distinction in Florida Tech (3.35), Nova Southeastern University (3.27), Rollins College (3.27) and Barry University (3.14).
Adelphi University earned the top spot in the NFCA All-Academic team listing with a 3.724 team GPA.
The Sailfish players receiving NFCA Scholar-Athlete recognition included the following: Camille Benito, Theresa Butler, Stephanie Garrels, Josie Huddleston, Amber Johnson, Lindsey Johnson, Kayla Knight, Kayti Lundin, Brianna Parker, Britney Powell, Lauren Powell, Torrie Weems and Shelby Wood.
PBA will open the 2015 season on Feb. 6-8 at the Eckerd College Tournament in Clearwater, Florida. They will open their home season by debuting at the newly-built Simpson Field on Saturday, Feb. 21st at 12 pm versus the University of Tampa.
