WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic erased a 14-point halftime deficit in the second half but had their comeback fall short, 63-55, at the hands of Clayton State University to wrap up the Marriott Thanksgiving Tournament in the Rubin Arena.
After shooting just 28% (7-for-25) and being outscored 33-19 in the opening stanza, PBA came out on a mission in the second half. They held the Lakers to just 21% (6-for-29) shooting from the floor in the second set, while upping their own percentage to 44% (15-for-34).
The Sailfish cut the Lakers’ lead down to four points on three separate occasions with multiple chances to bring the game within a single possession, but were unable to get over the hump and draw even with the visitors.
Once again, Palm Beach Atlantic’s struggle to handle the ball and rebound came back to haunt the hosts. Clayton State outrebounded PBA 49-43, including a 26-15 margin in offensive rebounds. The Sailfish also committed a season-high 26 turnovers while forcing the Lakers into 19.
Junior Nina Krstic paced PBA on the offensive end, scoring 11 points and also pulling in six rebounds. She was joined in double-figures by Nkiru Anyagaligbo, who had 10 points of her own. Junior Kimmi McIntosh finished with nine points and also added six assists and five rebounds, while Ayanna Holmes led all players with 14 rebounds in the game and chipped in eight points.
Palm Beach Atlantic returns to action on Monday, December 1st when they play host the University of Puerto Rico Bayamon at 7:00 pm in the Rubin Arena.
