WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic’s men’s basketball team went into Thanksgiving Break on a high note with their performance on Wednesday afternoon, taking down the University of Rio-Piedras 78-57 from the Rubin Arena.
PBA jumped ahead early and never relinquished their lead, busting out to a 12-2 start and running on cruise control for the rest of the game. Senior Garet Tucker provided the early spark for the Sailfish offense, scoring 14 first-half points en route to a 14-point lead at the halftime horn. Palm Beach Atlantic shot 44% (17-for-39) from the field while holding UPR Rio-Piedras to just 32% (9-for-28) from the floor.
The second half was more of a score-by-committee effort, as Evin Graham and Ronnell Ross each poured in nine points and Nigel Sydnor added eight. Both teams shot 38% from the floor in the second stanza, but the Sailfish capitalized off of 17 Gallitos’ turnovers that resulted in 23 points on the other end.
Palm Beach Atlantic dominated the paint on the night, outscoring Puerto Rico Rio-Piedras 42-16 down low, while also turning in a double-digit rebound margin for the game at 42-31.
Individually, it was the trio of Graham, Tucker and Ross who led the way for PBA. Graham turned in a game-high 18 points, while Tucker added 16 and Ross turned in his second straight double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
With a few days off for the Thanksgiving holiday, Palm Beach Atlantic returns to action on Sunday afternoon when they play host to Morehouse College at 4:00 pm in the Rubin Arena.
