Men's Soccer Advances to NCAAA Regional Final with 4-1 Win Over Chowan

MURFREESBORO, N.C.- A strong offensive performance up and down the Palm Beach Atlantic men’s soccer lineup led the Sailfish to a 4-1 victory over Chowan University on Thursday afternoon at the NCCAA Regional Tournament. The Sailfish now advance to the NCCAA Regional Championship match to be played Saturday afternoon at 1 pm.
A pair of goals in each half propelled the ‘Fish to their ninth win of the 2014 campaign on Thursday as they knocked off the hosts from Chowan by the 4-1 tally.
Freshman Lucas DaSilva started the scoring spree with a goal in the 11th minute as junior Jermaine Metz fed the speedy DaSilva at the top of the box for an early 1-0 Sailfish lead.
After a Hawks equalizer in the 17th minute by Jordan Radisavljevic the Sailfish went back to work with what turned out to be the game-winner.
Junior Steven Fiema, who has played numerous positions in the PBA lineup this season, came through with a strike to the far post as Lucas Coutinho was credited with the assist in the 23rd minute of the half.
After the busy scoring through the early stages of the match things would settle down through halftime as Palm Beach Atlantic entered the break leading 2-1 on the scoreboard and 12-6 in the shot count.
Following intermission the ‘Fish quickly regrouped and saw Daniel Pena get in the goals scored column with his fifth goal of the season on a free kick just under two minutes into the second stanza.
A final goal by Fiema closed the scoring for the ‘Fish and the game as he added on an insurance goal in the 57th minute.
Junior Steeven Raymont went the full 90 minutes in goal for PBA and produced four saves.
Saturday will see the Sailfish take on Southern Wesleyan (S.C.) University for the NCCAA South Region Championship. SWU defeated Shorter (Ga.) University in the other semi-final match by a 3-1 score. Southern Wesleyan is the defending NCCAA National Champions.
