GREENVILLE, S.C.- After being sidelined to start the season, Palm Beach Atlantic University sophomore Ashley Jones returned to the field over the weekend while helping lead the Sailfish softball team to an impressive two-game sweep of rival Nova Southeastern University. Because of her efforts which included picking up both victories, Jones has been named the NCCAA Player of the Week for softball.
A sophomore from Jensen Beach, Florida and a product of Jensen Beach HS, Jones started her second year in a Sailfish uniform in much the same fashion as her freshman season as a dominating pitcher inside the circle.
The right-hander started the first game against NSU and went the distance compiling nine strikeouts, leading the Fish to a 7-1 thrashing of the Sharks. Jones would come on in relief in game two and limited the Sharks to only one hit and one run in 3 2/3 innings as the Fish over-came an early 3-0 deficit to win 5-4.
With the pair of wins, PBA improves to 7-7 after a 1-5 start and have now won four games in a row, sweeping back-to-back double-headers against NCAA Division II opponents, Eckerd College and Nova Southeastern University.
