Sailfish Take Down Cougars For Season's First Win, 68-64

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – A night after taking the No. 8 team in the country to the brink, Palm Beach Atlantic women’s basketball took down Colorado Christian University 68-64 in the finale of the CCU Tournament on Saturday evening at the CCU Event Center.
Newcomer Nina Krstic led the way for the Sailfish with 17 points, draining four triples and also bringing down six rebounds in the first win of the season.
PBA took control in the first half with a 35-28 performance, once again exceling from the free throw line. The ‘Fish knocked down nine of ten chances from the charity stripe in the half while also shooting 41% (12-for-29) in the stanza. Post play was once again a strength in the opening half, with Nkiru Anyagaligbo scoring eight points and bringing down four rebounds and Ayanna Holmes adding eight points of her own.
The Sailfish lead swelled out of the gate in the second half, reaching 11 points with 15:18 to play in the game. Colorado Christian would not go down without a fight however, climbing back into the game slowly and eventually cutting the lead down to two points. With the game on the line and just a two-point game, sophomore Taylor Buchanan calmly sunk two free throws to put the game on ice.
Palm Beach Atlantic and Colorado Christian were nearly even in statistics for the game, with both teams bringing down 37 rebounds. The Sailfish shot 39% (22-for-56) for the game and the Cougars netted a 42% (24-for-57) clip. PBA forced CCU into 23 turnovers in the game.
Four players finished the game in double-digits for the ‘Fish, with Anyagaligbo, Buchanan and Holmes all finishing the game with 10 points to add to Krstic’s 17.
PBA returns to action on Tuesday evening, opening up the home schedule with Florida Tech at 5:30 pm in the Rubin Arena.
