CENTRAL, S.C. – After playing so many matches in the 2014 season so close, Palm Beach Atlantic women’s soccer were able to put the final pieces together against Southern Wesleyan University on Friday night, taking down the Warriors 1-0 on a Kierstyn Harrington PK goal.
PBA dominated the game from the offensive standpoint from the outset, pulling a corner kick within the first minute and continuing their aggressiveness throughout the game. The Sailfish followed a 16-shot first half with 17 in the second, amassing a season-high 33 shots on the night.
After a scoreless first half, it looked like Palm Beach Atlantic would strike first, but they came up empty on a penalty kick attempt. Midway through the second stanza they would get their second chance however, as Harrington was taken down in the box by a defender and then converted moments later on the PK for the game-winner.
Keeper Kayla Wincko saw just four total shots in the match, all of which were on goal. The clean slate marked the sophomore’s second on the season.
The offense was busy all night, with shots coming from a handful of Sailfish. Monica Rojas had three shots, while Haily Johnson and Karina White each added four. Leading the way was South Carolina native Kasey Wyer, who finished with an astonishing 11 shots with three on-goal.
Palm Beach Atlantic heads back to the pitch Saturday evening when they take on Emmanuel College at 6 pm in the final match of the 2014 season.
