SAINT LEO, Fla. – A rebound goal just thirty seconds into overtime sunk the Palm Beach Atlantic women’s soccer team attempt for an upset win on the road against No. 23 Saint Leo on Wednesday night, ultimately falling 2-1 to the Lions from University Field.
After playing a stellar game and forcing another overtime (the Sailfish’s fifth of the year), Saint Leo busted out of the gate and got a shot attempt from Shaffron Jordan. After her initial shot ricocheted off the post, Jordan knocked home the goal for the game-winner.
PBA scored their lone goal of the night thanks to a Kasey Wyer tally from Morgan Campbell in the 18th minute. It was a counterpunch from the Saint Leo goal just two minutes prior to open up the scoring. Wyer now leads the team in goals on the season with four and also has a team-high 11 points.
With a first half that included just one shot on goal for either team (which resulted in goals), the second half offered a flurry of activity in net for both keepers. Palm Beach Atlantic finished the game with 12 total shots and two on goal while PBA keeper Kayla Wincko saw 20 total shots and turned aside six.
The Sailfish fall to 2-5-1 on the season and will return to the pitch on the road against Barry University on October 16th at 7 pm.
