TAMPA, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic men’s soccer team’s undefeated streak was snapped at six on Saturday night as No. 24-ranked University of Tampa earned a 3-0 win over the ‘Fish at Pepin Stadium. Playing one another for just the second time in the last five seasons the Spartans and Sailfish have now split their last two meetings.
Palm Beach Atlantic (6-2-2) and Tampa (6-3-1) finished the night fairly even in the final shots count (UT 16, PBA 11) however it would be the Red and Black who would cash in on their opportunities as they scored two goals in the early stages of the second-half to back a 1-0 halftime lead.
It would take until the 34th minute of the contest for either team to find the back of the net when senior Andrew Clare tallied his first score of the season on an assist from Nasyir Rodriguez.
The 1-0 UT lead would last until halftime as the Spartans led 7-5 in first-half shots over the Sailfish.
Two insurance goals by the Spartans in an eight minute span extended the home team’s lead as Tampa held on for the shutout win down the stretch.
PBA was held scoreless for the first time since Oct. 26, 2013 when they tallied a 2-0 loss versus the University of Montevallo.
