WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Sailfish men’s soccer team pushed their unbeaten streak to six matches on Wednesday night as they defeated visiting Eckerd College by a 3-0 final count. The match was plagued by a lightning delay right before the kickoff of the second half followed by monsoon-like-conditions when play resumed as the two teams gutted it out for the full 90 minutes.
A pair of Palm Beach Atlantic (6-1-2) players named Lucas were responsible for all three goals on the evening as sophomore Lucas Kuscevic and freshman Lucas DaSilva completed all the scoring on the soggy pitch.
Kuscevic got the ‘Fish on the board in the 33rd minute when teammate Mike O’Sullivan’s first shot attempt glanced off the Eckerd (2-5-1) goalkeeper’s hands and Kuscevic alertly deposited the rebound for a 1-0 PBA lead.
That 1-0 advantage would hold up until halftime as the teams went into the break and PBA doubling up their South Region counterpart by a 12-6 count in total shots.
Kuscevic tallied his second score of the night and fourth of the season in the 50th minute following halftime and a half hour lightning delay when teammate Bruno Pietrobelli delivered a free kick into the box as Kuscevic alertly knocked in the goal with a nifty backheel flick past the EC keeper.
With the rain coming in hard for the final 25 minutes of the match the ‘Fish extended the lead to 3-0 in the 84th minute as DaSilva cashed in for an unassisted score.
Junior keeper Steeven Raymont once again made another strong performance in between the pipes as he made five saves on the night in preserving his second shutout of the season.
PBA will once again stay within the South Region and the Sunshine State Conference for their next match as they are set to travel to the University of Tampa on Saturday, Oct. 4th at 7 pm.
