WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s soccer fell in heartbreaking fashion on Wednesday night to rival Lynn University when the Fighting Knights scored with five seconds left in double-overtime to take down the Sailfish 2-1.

With less than ten seconds remaining in the contest, Lynn was awarded a free kick on a foul beyond midfield. The ball was sent into the box perfectly by Lauren Handley and then headed to the back of the net by Jordyn Turner for the win. Turner scored both goals for the Knights.

Palm Beach Atlantic fell behind early with the LU goal coming in the eighth minute, but battled back and got the equalizer just four minutes later off a Kasey Wyer strike. The match would remain scoreless until the fateful tally in the closing seconds of the game.

Both teams played a heavily offensive-minded game, with LU totaling 24 shots and seven on goal while PBA finished with 21 shots and 12 on goal. Lynn also outdrew corners by a narrow 6-4 margin.

Fighting Knights’ keeper Caitlin Shaver finished the match with 11 saves, while Sailfish keeper Kayla Wincko ended up with five.

Palm Beach Atlantic returns to action on Saturday evening as part of a double-header with the men’s team on the road at Florida Southern College starting at 5 PM.
