WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s basketball team is gearing up for an exciting 2014-15 season, and head coach Carlos Palacio is pleased to announce the newcomers to his program for the campaign. This year’s Sailfish will add one freshman and five newcomers to the roster.

Nina Krstic
Krstic joins PBA after one year at St. Petersburg College where she put together a solid season in her lone season. She earned a spot on the 2014 All-State Tournament team while also winning the team’s 6th man of the year award. The Zadar, Croatia native played her first two seasons at the University of Tampa where she received her redshirt before moving on to St. Petersburg. Nina is a nursing major and the daughter of Mario and Helena Krstic.

Nkiru Anyagaligbo
Joining the Sailfish for her first season is Anyagaligbo, who is a redshirt freshman. The Miami, Florida native joined Palm Beach Atlantic at the semester point of the 2013-14 season after transferring from Boston University. Nkiru is a 5-foot-11 forward who graduated from Dr. Krop High School with honors in 2013. She’s a biology/pre-med major and the daughter of Eucharia and Chris Anyagaligbo.

Janelle Cannon
Perhaps the most prolific scorer of the newcomers, Cannon will continue Coach Palacio’s trend of bringing in star scorers. Cannon played junior college ball at Southwestern Illinois College where she led the NJCAA in scoring and earned a spot on the All-American first-team. Janelle is a marketing major from Evanston, Illinois and is the daughter of Natasha Holmes.

Isabela Costa
Adding a much needed post presence for the Sailfish is the six-foot-two Costa, who transfers to Palm Beach Atlantic from Utah State University-Eastern. Isabela averaged 5.9 points and a team-best 8.0 rebounds per game in the Eagles up-tempo style during her sophomore campaign. The Rio de Janeiro, Brazil native will be majoring in public relations with a minor in computer science and is the daughter of Deise Cintra and Luiz Carlos Costa.

Denisa Domiterova
Domiterova joins Palm Beach Atlantic after playing at New Jersey Tech. The guard won the Newcomer of the Year award in 2011 and was All-Conference second-team in 2012, and will look to elevate PBA to a new level in her lone season with the team. The 5’9” Zvolen, Slovakia native is a sharpshooter by trade, and will add depth to a much-needed position as the Sailfish lose their top two three-point threats from last season. The daughter of Branislav Durech and Katarina Durechova, Denisa is majoring in Business with a minor in International Business.

Darsan DeShazier
The only freshman joining PBA for the upcoming season, DeShazier comes from Decatur, Georgia and looks to add depth at the guard position. Darsan put together a decorated high school career at Southwest DeKalb High School where she was a member of the Panthers 5A State Championship in 2012-13. The daughter of Darrell and Sandra DeShazier, Darsan will start at Palm Beach Atlantic as a business major.

Coach Palacio had this to say about the 2014-15 recruiting class, “This is our second recruiting class and we really focused on adding players that fit our culture. We were blessed when Nkiru transferred last December and that led to the beginning of a strong and experienced group of players. Janelle, Denisa and Nina all have three years of collegiate experience, and Isabela fills a major need in the post.”

He went on to add, “Darsan is our only true freshman and she will help us out because she can play multiple positions. I feel all six of our new players will contribute this season and we now have a core of athletes that will be here at PBA for several seasons.”

He finished by saying, “I am excited to watch these young women succeed both on and off the court.”
