WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic turned aside a daunting task on Tuesday evening, welcoming undefeated Eckerd College into town in rude fashion on the way to a 3-0 victory at the Rinker Athletic Campus.
The Tritons came into the game having outscored their opponents 24-0 on the season, but the Sailfish showed no fear as they came out and scored in just the second minute of the contest. PBA got the quick strike from Freshman Morgan Campbell, who scored her second goal of the season off a beautiful feed from Monica Rojas to make it 1-0.
Play was largely dominated by possession for both teams for the remainder of the half, but the ‘Fish came out firing again in the second stanza. Rookie Audrey Decker nailed a shot off the left post on the assist from Kasey Wyer in the 50th minute to make it 2-0.
To put the game out of reach, Redshirt Junior Haily Johnson tacked on a goal off another assist from Rojas making the score 3-0. Even with the last-ditch effort from Eckerd late, PBA calmly disposed of any threats on the way to the shutout.
Sophomore keeper Kayla Wincko earned the first clean sheet of her collegiate career, while getting major help throughout the night from her back line of defenders. Bridget Wollrabe, Karina White, Kayla Fisher and Laura Geisler all pitched in terrific efforts throughout the match’s entirety to help earn the shutout.
Palm Beach Atlantic travels to the Golden State of California to take part in the Humboldt State Lumberjack Classic, beginning on Friday afternoon. The Sailfish will start the tournament against BYU-Hawaii at 3 PM EST.
