WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Thursday night was a special night for all of Palm Beach Atlantic University with the long-awaited opening of the Rinker Athletic Campus. After a pregame ribbon cutting ceremony, 1,350 fans piled into the Rinker Athletic Campus to catch a glimpse at their highly anticipated soccer squad, and the Sailfish did not disappoint, coming away with a 3-1 victory over previously unbeaten Southeastern University.
The inaugural match at the Rinker Athletic Campus was exciting from the opening whistle, as newcomer Juan Jose Morales put the Sailfish (1-0-0) on the board off a beautiful assist in the box from Lucas Coutinho in just the seventh minute of play. PBA would take a 2-0 lead on a Coutinho goal that was set up beautifully by Daniel Pena less than 10 minutes later.
Southeastern (3-1-0) struck back in the 38th minute with a goal, slicing the lead in half. Just over a minute later, first-half substitution Steven Fiema distanced the home team with a beautiful goal that got the home crowd on their feet.
Palm Beach Atlantic outshot Southeastern 14-6 overall in the game, including five on goal. The second half failed to produce a goal for either side, but both had near misses that were cleverly thwarted out by the defensive lines.
The Sailfish return to action on Tuesday, September 9th at the Rinker Athletic Complex taking on Florida Tech at 7 PM.
