Women's Tennis Announces Five Signees for 2014

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Head tennis coach Chi Ly faced the task of replacing four players from his 2014-15 women’s team and is happy to announce the signings of five individuals who will look to carry the Sailfish to new heights.

Valeriia Nagovitcina – The lone transfer for the 2014-15 class, Nagovitcina joins PBA from Southeast Missouri State University. She finished her freshman season with an overall singles record of 15-12 at No. 1 singles position, tying her for the Redhawks’ team-high in wins. The Togliatty, Russia native attributed to nine wins on the doubles side as well.  Not only did Valeriia earn her stripes in the Division I scene, but she also was named to the Dean’s List in both semesters while keeping her GPA over 3.75.

Michaela Mignemi – One of four freshmen joining Palm Beach Atlantic in the fall, Mignemi comes to West Palm Beach from Englewood, Florida. She competed as the No. 1 player for Venice High School and was named to the All-Area tennis team in 2012, 2013 and 2014, and also participated on District and Regional Championship squads for the Indians in 2011 and 2013. Michaela also earned championships at the district and regional level in 2014, qualifying for the state tournament for the third time in four years. Not only did she excel on the court, but she shined in the classroom as well, finishing in the top 97% of Venice High School with a final GPA of 3.8.

Dezi Bowman – Bowman marks another out-of-state product for Coach Ly, leaving Indianapolis, Indiana for the warm weather of West Palm. She finished her career as the No. 1 singles and doubles at Roncalli High School where she was a two-time MVP, All-County recipient, Marion County Champion, and a three year regional finalist. Dezi also showed excellence in the academic realm as a member of the National French Honors Society and Indiana University Program for Foreign Language Students, as well as an Honor Roll student and Student of the Year award winner.

Ana Reich – Reich joins the Sailfish from Guayaquil, Ecuador where she ranked among the Top 10 in the country. The incoming freshman was a COSAT Doubles Champion as well as National Doubles Champion while earning a 3.8 high school GPA.

Lexi Welton
– Joining Mignemi, Bowman and Reich in the 2014-15 freshman class is Lexi Welton, who comes to PBA from Naperville, Illinois. The Wheaton Academy alumni was No. 1 singles and doubles all four years of high school while earning spots on the All-Conference team for four seasons and All-State team for three.

The 2014-15 season is set to begin with practice this fall at the new Rinker Athletic Campus and the regular season to follow in the spring.
