CRESTWOOD, Ill. – Former Palm Beach Atlantic catcher Spencer Castro has signed to continue his baseball career in the Frontier League as a member of the Windy City ThunderBolts.
Castro, who played two seasons for PBA after starting his collegiate career at Indian River State College, earned the starting catching role in his second year as a Sailfish and batted .318 with four home runs and 22 runs driven in during his senior campaign. He was also named to the Independents Collegiate Athletic Association (ICAA) First Team for the 2014 season.
The Windy City ThunderBolts are entering their 16th season of existence and are one of only two teams to ever win back-to-back Frontier League championships in 2007 & 2008. The Frontier League has been in existence since 1993 and have 14 operating organizations throughout Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Over 600 former players have been signed into affiliated ball out of the Frontier League.
Head coach Kent Bottenfield added his thoughts on Castro, saying, “Spencer has a great work ethic, solid upside and an unparalleled love for the game. I am proud of him and how he has worked himself into this opportunity. He deserves this chance and it won’t take long for him to show he is worthy of it.”
