JUPITER, Fla. – Utilizing a strong outing from junior Buddy Fisher, the Palm Beach Atlantic University baseball team went on to a big win over Bloomfield College on Tuesday night with a final tally of 16-0 at the Roger Dean Complex.
The Fish pounded out 12 hits in the victory while the they were also aided by four Deacon miscues in the field while the BC pitching staff also issued nine walks during the contest.
Fisher posted the victory after tossing six impressive innings as the right-hander allowed only four hits and no runs while also recording three strikeouts. Three other PBA relievers combined on the shutout with Oscar Cuveas (Islandia, N.Y./Dominican Republic), Billy Schmidt (Mount Dora, Fla.), and Billy Falconio (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) each tossing a scoreless inning.
Offensively, the Sailfish didn’t wait long to get the bats going as they touched home plate four times in the first inning, one in the second, and five more in the third inning to give Fisher some solid run support.
Facing right-hander Julian Nunez, the first three hitters in the Sailfish order earned free passes via a walk followed up by a two-run double by sophomore slugger Tony Livelsberger (Hanover, Pa.) that brought home the games first runs. The Sailfish would tack on two more in the opening frame as freshman Jesse Gibbs (Port Republic, Md.) added on a double of his own to give the Fish their early 4-0 advantage.
Overall, the Fish placed three hitters in the box score with multi-hit games led by leadoff hitter and senior second-baseman Marion Jimenez (Bradenton, Fla.) who posted a two-run single in the Sailfish five-run third inning outburst. Freshmen Brett Richardson and Josh Santos (Miramar, Fla.) posted the other multi-hit performances with Santos collecting a pair of doubles.
PBA will take the remainder of the week off until Saturday, March 8th when they travel to nearby Northwood University for a showdown with the Seahawks. First-pitch is set for 12 pm.
