GREENVILLE, S.C.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women’s tennis program saw three of its players named to the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) All-American teams this week with junior Veena Vasquez headlining the group as an All-American first-team selection. Also named to the listing was senior Jessica Wharton and freshman Yoanna Peshev to the All-American second-team.

The honors were announced at the annual NCCAA National Tournament being held this week in Mobile, Alabama with the PBA men’s team in attendance and competing.

Other honors included Scholar-Athlete status bestowed on Vasquez, Wharton and senior Maria Jimenez for their good work in the classroom. To be named a Scholar-Athlete a student-athlete must be a junior or senior and have maintained at least a 3.4 cumulative grade-point average.

Ministry Awards are also handed out to select student-athletes who have contributed to volunteer opportunities in the community with Vasquez, Jimenez and Liddy Robinson all chosen for this distinct honor.

Vasquez continues to shine in her Sailfish career as she has been named to the NCCAA All-American listing for a third straight season. She is currently ranked at No. 50 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II singles rankings while compiling a 15-5 mark at No. 1-singles this season.

Wharton and Peshev are both first-time All-American selections.

A native of Copley, Ohio, Wharton put together a solid senior season with an 11-10 mark in singles including a perfect 5-0 record when playing at No. 2-singles. She also posted a 15-6 mark in doubles alongside freshman Maya Jovic to lead the team in doubles wins.

Peshev put together a strong first campaign wearing the Blue and White this season as a freshman from Auckland, New Zealand. She finished 8-9 in singles play while spending most of the season locked in at the No. 2-singles spot. She also teamed up with Vasquez to post a 13-5 mark at No. 1-doubles.

The Sailfish women’s tennis team finished their season with a 14-9 overall record.
