MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic put forth a resilient effort on Wednesday evening but ultimately came up short in a 9-6 loss to Barry University from Finebloom Field.
The Bucs jumped on starter Alex Greener (Loss, 0-7) early, scoring four runs in the first two innings of play. PBA would chip away at that lead, scoring single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings to make it a 4-3 ballgame.
Barry added another three-spot in their half of the sixth inning to widen their lead to 7-3, but the Sailfish would once again battle back. Palm Beach Atlantic scored one run in each of the seventh and eighth innings thanks to an RBI double from Joel Buchko and a run-scoring single from Spencer Castro. With the contest within two runs in the eighth, BU added two more insurance runs to seal the deal. PBA tried to rally, even receiving a home run from Chris Farrell and bringing the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but the ‘Fish came up just short.
Ultimately the Sailfish defense fell flat on Wednesday night, committing three errors in the field that led to five unearned runs.
Palm Beach Atlantic outhit Barry 12-7 overall in the game, including two-hit games from Castro, Farrell, Anthony Ortiz and a three-hit performance from Ryan Gerber. Castro and Farrell both drove in two runs, while Gerber came around to score three in the game.
The Sailfish head to St. Augustine this weekend to take on the Flagler Saints in a three-game series, starting at 6:00 PM on Friday night.
