PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Junior Kennie Silvestri stymied the Barry Buccaneers and received an offensive outburst as Palm Beach Atlantic reigned victorious 15-7 on Friday night from Palm Beach Gardens High.
Silvestri (Win, 4-3) twirled his way through seven innings in the series opener, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out three. The Tallahassee, Florida native retired 12-of-13 batters faced during the middle portion of the game, and only allowed two base hits after the third inning.
The offense erupted for 15 runs on 17 hits, and got the ball rolling right away. Senior Joel Buchko launched his fourth homer of the season to put PBA on the board and tie the score 2-2.
Andres Vazquez added a two-run double in the fourth inning that moved the Sailfish ahead for good. It remained a close game until the fifth inning, when PBA tacked on four runs. Buchko tallied his 7th sacrifice fly of the season and then seniors Ryan Drew and Ryan Gerber followed with two-out, RBI singles.
Just when the ‘Fish inched ahead, PBA erupted for six more runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach. The frame started with back-to-back doubles from Spencer Castro and Jason Webb, and then six straight Sailfish reached base.
In the end, six Palm Beach Atlantic hitters tallied multi-hit games, with Ryan Drew and Ryan Gerber each collecting three-hit nights. Buchko, Vazquez, Castro, Ethan Perla and Anthony Ortiz all tallied two hits along the way, with Buchko driving in four runs, with Vazquez and Drew knocking in three as well.
The Sailfish return to action tomorrow afternoon against Barry beginning at 1 PM. Senior day festivities will take place before the game.
