PBA Women's Tennis Lands Big Home Win Over No. 16-Ranked Nova Southeastern

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Sailfish women’s tennis team concluded the home portion of their 2014 schedule on Wednesday evening by hosting No. 16-ranked (ITA) Nova Southeastern University. Along with honoring the team’s three seniors the Palm Beach Atlantic squad also pulled an upset as the No. 36-ranked (ITA) ‘Fish defeated the Sharks in a tight 5-4 contest.
The Sailfish are now 14-7 on the season with just one regular season match left on the schedule as they will travel to Saint Leo University for match on Saturday, April 12th at 1 pm.
The program honored seniors Maria Jimenez, Liddy Robinson and Jessica Wharton on Wednesday by playing one of their best matches of the season.
PBA began the evening with a 2-1 lead after doubles as junior Veena Vasquez and freshman Yoanna Peshev teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 1-doubles while Wharton and freshman Maja Jovic were victorious at No. 2-doubles with an 8-6 Sailfish victory.
Things continued to go well at the top of singles with Vasquez knocking off her opponent 6-2, 6-2 to once again put the ‘Fish in the driver’s seat.
The match would come down to the final two spots of singles as it would be up to Jovic and Robinson to determine the final outcome of the match. The PBA duo showed determination in defeating their counterparts as Jovic rattled off a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 5-singles while Robinson was also strong with a 7-6, 6-3 win to clinch the match for the ‘Fish.
