JUPITER, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic and Nova Southeastern were locked in a marathon of a battle on Friday night when Joel Buchko knocked a single through the left side to drive in the game-winning run and make the Sailfish 4-3 victors from the Roger Dean Complex.
The pitching was the story of the night for Palm Beach Atlantic, with the combination of Kennie Silvestri, Robbie Pettet, and Dominic Monda (Win, 3-1) combining for 15 strikeouts over the thirteen innings of work.
PBA got the first two runs on the board in the third inning, but NSU came back to score the next three runs to take a 3-2 lead. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Ryan Gerber came through with a game-tying single. Both the Sailfish and the Sharks would have significant chances over the next six innings, but it wasn’t until Buchko’s game-winner that either team succeeded.
Aside from knocking in the game-winner, Buchko finished 3-for-5 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored. Fellow senior Ethan Perla also recorded a three-hit night and scored the clinching run. The only other ‘Fish to record a multi-hit game was Spencer Castro, who went 2-for-5.
Silvestri, Palm Beach Atlantic’s starter, picked up a quality start by pitching into the seventh and only surrendering one earned run. The righty struck out five and walked just two.
The Sailfish and Sharks continue the “Battle of the High Seas” tomorrow afternoon from the Roger Dean Complex with a double-header beginning at 1 PM.
