Women's Tennis Moves Up Two Spots in Latest ITA Rankings; Vasquez Ranked No. 49 in Singles

SKILLMAN, N.J.- The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released their most recent NCAA Division II team rankings on Wednesday afternoon with the Palm Beach Atlantic women’s team moving up to No. 36 in the latest rankings. The team is now 13-7 on the season and moves up two spots in the rankings following their No. 38 team ranking in the last ITA release.
Also listed in this week’s rankings are the first ITA singles and doubles player rankings with junior Veena Vasquez coming in at No. 49 in singles for all of Division II. She comes in at No. 14 in the South Region for singles.
The Boynton Beach, Fla. native and product of Spanish River Community High School cracks the top-50 nationally for the first time this season.
The South Region once again dominates the national landscape of Division II women’s tennis as six of the top-10 teams in the country hail from the region. Barry University sits at No. 1 in the rankings followed by other regional members such as: Lynn University (No. 5), Saint Leo University (No. 7), Rollins College (No. 8), the University of West Florida (No. 9) and Florida Southern College (No. 10).
The top singles player in the ITA rankings also hails from Lynn as Valentine Confalonieri is ranked in the top spot followed by Paoli Cigui (Columbus State University) and Aleksandra Filipovski (Armstrong Atlantic State University).
